Repo Rate

Banking & savings term

The repo rate is the interest rate at which the RBI lends to commercial banks — the benchmark that drives loan and deposit rates across the economy.

When the RBI raises the repo rate, floating loan EMIs and FD rates tend to rise; when it cuts, they fall. It is the RBI's main tool to control inflation.
