Gold & silver use actual prices. Nifty 50 is the Total Return Index estimate (price index + a reinvested dividend of ~1.5% p.a.); on price index alone it would be ₹4.88L. FD (~7% p.a.) and inflation (~6% p.a.) are illustrative assumptions. Gold returns ignore making charges, GST and storage. Past performance does not guarantee future returns — not investment advice.

So — should you buy gold?

What gold has historically been good — and not good — for. General guidance, not advice.

Long-term wealth protection

Has historically held its value across decades and currencies.

Inflation & rupee hedge

Has tended to rise as the rupee lost purchasing power.

Portfolio diversifier

Has often held up when equities fell — smoothing the ride.

Short-term trading

Volatile; can stay flat or fall for years at a stretch.

Regular income

Pays no interest or dividend — a pure price play.

How much gold should you hold?

Conservative

~10%

More gold for stability alongside FDs/bonds.

Balanced

5–10%

A steady diversifier next to equity SIPs.

Aggressive

≤5%

Lean — let equities do the heavy lifting.

A common rule of thumb is to cap gold at ~10% of a portfolio — enough to diversify without dragging long-run growth. This isn't personalised advice.Plan with a goal SIP

Understanding the gold & silver rate

Gold and silver trade around the clock on global markets, quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (about 31.1 grams). In India the rate is conventionally shown per 10 grams for gold and per kilogram for silver, which is what you see above when the currency is set to ₹. We convert the live international price at the current dollar exchange rate so the number is transparent and consistent worldwide.

Day to day, prices move with the dollar, interest rates, central-bank buying, festival and wedding demand in India, and safe-haven flows when markets are nervous. Silver tends to swing more sharply than gold because it is also an industrial metal. Because the price you pay at a jeweller also includes import duty, GST and making charges, treat the figures here as a clean benchmark rather than a final bill.

Gold & silver rate — FAQs

Not exactly. We show the international spot price converted to your currency at the live exchange rate. Indian retail rates add import duty, 3% GST and the jeweller's making charges, and vary slightly by city and bullion association — so the rate you actually pay is higher. Use this as a transparent benchmark, not the final billed price.
