How we'll rank these
We rank cards by genuine reader benefit for this use case — the real value after the annual fee, the cap on bonus rewards, and how easily you qualify — never by any commission. Every figure is taken from, and linked to, the issuer's official page and dated. We don't publish star ratings we can't defend. Our methodology · editorial policy.
How to choose a fuel card
A fuel credit card only wins if you spend enough at one oil network — the accelerated rewards are tied to that brand (IndianOil, BPCL, HDFC's IOCL tie-up, etc.). The 1% fuel surcharge that the waiver removes is a real, standard charge on every fuel transaction, so the waiver alone can offset a card's fee for heavy refuellers. Watch the monthly cap on bonus fuel rewards.

Best fuel credit cards — FAQs
Every fuel transaction in India carries a ~1% fuel surcharge added by the payment network. A fuel credit card waives this surcharge (usually up to a monthly cap), so you effectively save 1% on fuel before any reward points. Confirm the cap and minimum/maximum transaction limits on the card's official page.
Mostly, yes. Co-branded fuel cards give their highest rewards at one network — IndianOil, BPCL or HPCL pumps. If you don't consistently refuel at that brand, a flat-cashback card may serve you better. Check the exact reward rate on the issuer's page.
It depends on your monthly fuel spend. The surcharge waiver plus accelerated rewards need to beat the annual fee. For heavy refuellers at one network it usually does; for light users a lifetime-free or flat-cashback card is often better. Verify the current fee before applying.

Card terms change frequently — always confirm the current fees, reward rates and eligibility on the card's official page before applying. Using credit responsibly and paying in full avoids interest charges.
